    Bridge Masterclass Series:

From Structural Evaluation to Design Decisions

    Engineering decision process explored

    🗓️Session 1: July 7, 2026
    🗓️Session 2: July 14, 2026
    🕑 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM (EDT)
    Online (GotoWebinar)
    ✏️Overview

Reinforced or prestressed concrete, it's not just about cost. Every span you design carries real tradeoffs: cracking under service loads, camber control during staging, segment weights your contractor's crane can't handle. The choice between RC and PSC touches more of your project than the estimate sheet, and getting it wrong shows up in the field, not the office.

The answer involves a layered evaluation of structural performance, constructability, long-term durability, and project-specific constraints, and knowing the right approach and tools is what moves the decision forward with confidence.

This two-part series is built for exactly that. Structured as a live, flexible masterclass, the series walks you through the full engineering decision path  – from multi-stage structural evaluation to validated, defensible design decisions. Session 1 grounds you in a real case study. Session 2 equips you with the know-hows from the tools.

Attend both sessions (2 PDH total) and leave with a repeatable process for making the RC vs. PSC call and the modeling skills to back it up.

    💻 Sessions

    Session 1 - Case Study

    Date: July 7, 2026
    Time: 01:00PM - 02:00 PM (EDT)

Speaker:  Michael Williams, PE - Senior Structural Engineer /  Indianapolis Lead | Lawson-Fisher Associates

Session 1 will show how project requirements are translated into 3D refined models to address project constraints and in turn drive design decisions. He will share the multi-stage structural evaluation process, walking through how these models helped him decide which structure type to final design and the advantages and disadvantages of the structure choice.

    Session 2 - Learn & Apply

    Date: July 14, 2026
    Time: 01:00PM - 02:00 PM (EDT)

Speaker:  Anju Sunil - Structural Engineer / Senior Technical Team Associate | MIDAS

Session 2 goes back to the fundamentals before touching a model. You'll work through Hambly's equations for deck analysis, understanding what they represent physically, not just how to plug numbers in, and use that foundation to understand what "level of detail" actually means when modeling a deck. From there, the session connects theory to practice: how different modeling assumptions shift your results, and how to read and interpret that output so your structure type decision is based on understanding, not just software defaults.

    📝Learning Objectives

The webinar series is designed to help attendees:
    - Navigate the evaluation process engineers may use to select between RC and PSC structures types.
    - Critically assess the advantages and limitations of each structure type based on real projects constraints.
    -  Understand Hambly's equations for deck analysis and how the level of modeling detail affects interpretation of results.
    - Leverage finite element analysis results to move from evaluation to a defensible design decision.
