Precast concrete Super T girder bridges are one of the most widely used bridge forms for New Zealand's state highway and local road replacement and renewal programmes. Design and evaluation of these structures must now reflect NZTA's updated live load requirements.
On 30 January 2026, NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) issued Technical Advice Note (TAN) #26-01, introducing interim amendments to the Bridge Manual HN (normal) design loading. The changes include a second pair of HN axles for calculating negative moment effects on continuous spans between 25 m and 60 m, a new double-tandem loading arrangement for shorter continuous spans, and updated deck evaluation provisions.
This hands-on technical training session provides practical, step-by-step guidance on modelling and analysing Super T bridges in MIDAS CIVIL NX, using purpose-built moving load cases developed specifically for TAN #26-01 and the Bridge Manual (3rd Edition, Amendment 4).
