This MIDAS Academy session covers two of the most common checks in geotechnical design – the stability of slopes and the stability of excavations – and shows how to carry them out in MIDAS GTS NX.
Starting from the principles of slope failure, you will see how the factor of safety and the critical failure surface are obtained from a finite element model, in 2D and in 3D. The session then moves on to staged excavation: you will follow how the factor of safety changes from the in-situ state, through each excavation step, to the final state, and how retaining structures and reinforcement affect the result.
Key highlights include:
Join us in Iași to model a slope, run the stability check and follow it through every excavation stage!
Rohith is the Senior Geotechnical Engineer at MIDAS IT Europe. He has more than 3 years of experience in the geotechnical engineering industry, with a specialization in finite element modelling and analysis. Rohith brings a balanced perspective combining software expertise with industry experience in engineered ground solutions (including previous work with Maccaferri), enabling practical and technically robust modelling strategies. As part of the technical team at MIDAS, Rohith has been involved in the continuous advancement of MIDAS GTS NX by translating complex engineering problems into efficient computational workflows and supporting consultants, contractors and researchers in delivering reliable and optimized design.
To take part in the hands-on session, please complete the steps below before the event. This way you can start modelling from the very first minute – thank you for preparing in advance.
