    Session Overview

In this session, we will explore how integrating advanced numerical simulation tools such as Midas GTS NX into geotechnical engineering curricula can transform complex theoretical concepts into practical engineering skills.

We will delve into a course framework where students apply Critical State Soil Mechanics (CSSM) principles to predict soil behaviour, validate their theoretical predictions against laboratory triaxial test results, and leverage advanced finite element numerical tools to gain deeper physical insights into stress paths, pore pressure development, and failure mechanics.

In addition, the webinar will feature a case study of a student team that applied the software to solve a complex embankment settlement problem in a national geotechnical engineering competition.

    Learning Objectives

📌Integrate Theoretical Concepts with Midas GTS NX

Understand how to combine Critical State Soil Mechanics theory, triaxial lab data, and finite element modelling to accurately capture complex soil behaviour.

    📌Enhance Geotechnical Pedagogy

Discover effective methodologies for teaching complex constitutive models and numerical simulation through hands-on student assignments

📌 Bridge Theory and Industry Practice

Learn how students leverage advanced numerical simulations to analyse and solve real-world engineering challenges.

    📌Strengthening Engineering Judgement

Consider approaches to ensure software supports—rather than replaces—the development of students’ engineering understanding and professional judgement.
