    Intro

     

    Building a longest bridge or a longest span of a bridge both require advanced technical expertise. Additionally, constructing a bridge at a considerable height poses a special challenge for engineers. Since MOTIVE has already explored the world's longest bridges and the longest spans, let's take a look at the highest bridges by type in the world. Before that, let's take a look at the tallest bridge.

     

    Tallest Bridge : MILLAU VIADUCT, FRANCE

     

    Structural height : 343 m

    The Millau Viaduct spans the gorge valley of the Tarn near Millau in the south of France, with a length of 2,460 m (8,070 ft). It relieved a heavy traffic jam that slowed down thousands of visitors traveling from northern France to the Mediterranean coast. The total maximum height is the sum of the height of the tallest pier (Pier Two), and the length between the tallest mast between Pier Two and Three.

    The Millau Viaduct harmonizes with the natural environment, offering a stunning landscape. The bridge received the Outstanding Structure Award from IABSE in 2006. (The Structures that received the Outstanding Structure Award will be introduced in another post.)

     

     

    Highest Suspension Bridge : SIDUHE BRIDGE, CHINA

     

    Height : 496 m

    Siduhe Bridge

     

    This bridge is part of the G50 Shanghai–Chongqing Expressway in Hubei. Upon its opening in 2009, it gained the title of the highest bridge in the world, but in 2016, it lost that title to the BEIPANJIANG Bridge when it was surpassed. The following paragraph introduces information about the BEIPANJIANG Bridge.

     

     

    Highest Cable-stayed Bridge, The World's Highest Bridge : BEIPANJIANG BRIDGE DUGE, CHINA

     

    Height : 565 m

    BEIPANJIANG BRIDGE DUGEBeipanjiang Bridge Duge

     

    The cable-stayed Beipanjiang Bridge Duge in China has a clearance at mean high water of 565 m (1,854 ft). It is also the world's highest bridge, reaching a height equivalent to that of a 200-story skyscraper. The main reason for its height is the presence of mountains in the area forming a karst landform covered in loose, fragile limestone. Additionally, its main span length ranks as the second-longest in the world among cable-stayed bridges, following Russia's Russky Bridge. (Link : World's Longest Bridge Spans)
