    Industry Partners Series:
    Soil Structure Interaction in Infrastructure

    🗓️Thursday, 8 Oct 2026 | 12:00–1:30 PM (AEDT)
    📍Live streamed via YouTube Live
    ✨Overview

Join us for a webinar in partnership with Engineers Australia, exploring how advanced numerical modelling can support complex soil-structure interaction challenges across infrastructure projects.

Through real-world applications of MIDAS GTS NX, the session will examine an integral bridge model that captures abutment-backfill interaction under cyclic thermal movement, alongside foundation design for a structure on reclaimed land in a marine environment.

The webinar will also showcase recent developments in GTS NX, including the Back Analysis feature using surrogate modelling to calibrate model parameters against site monitoring data and improve confidence in long-term behaviour assessment.

    🎯 Key Focus Areas

▪️Integral bridge modelling using a complete CIVIL NX model to capture abutment-backfill interaction under cyclic thermal movement
▪️Foundation design on reclaimed land, including the modelling of laterally loaded piles in challenging marine conditions
▪️Integrated structural and geotechnical modelling for complex soil-structure interaction problems
▪️Back Analysis in GTS NX using surrogate modelling to calibrate parameters against site monitoring data
▪️Practical insights from real-world applications to improve modelling accuracy, efficiency, and confidence in engineering decisions

    👤 Who Should Attend

▪️Geotechnical, civil, structural and bridge engineers working on infrastructure and foundation projects
▪️Senior engineers, principal engineers, technical leads and engineering managers involved in design, analysis and project delivery
▪️Geotechnical consultants and engineering designers using numerical modelling for complex soil-structure interaction problems
▪️Professionals from engineering consultancies, contractors and government agencies involved in bridge, foundation and infrastructure projects
▪️Researchers, academics, graduate engineers and students interested in advanced geotechnical modelling and practical applications of FEA

    🎙️Featuring Industry Experts
    Michael (1)
    Michael Crisp
Senior Geotechnical Engineer | Mott MacDonald

Dr Michael Crisp is a senior geotechnical engineer with 5 years of industry experience, particularly in numerical modelling for geotechnical problems. He has a PhD in Geotechnical Engineering on the topic of Site Investigation Optimisation.

Michael developed progressive validation for integral bridge analysis from 2D to 3D to provide confidence in the application of FEA analysis. His efforts in developing an integrated geotechnical and structural models have been key to achieve the transparency of results and model accuracy required for the project.
