Pragati Saxena Geotechnical Engineer, MIDAS IT
Pragati is a skilled Geotechnical Engineer with more than two years of experience in Numerical Modelling and Finite Element Analysis using Midas GTS NX. She has a Master's Degree (Hons) in Geotechnical Engineering from a reputed Indian Institute (IIT) and is proficient in using finite element methods to a range of geotechnical engineering challenges including slopes stability, foundations, excavations, tunneling, etc.
Q1. In the case of moisture-sensitive ground, the soil can have an important settlement after water infiltrates into the ground. Can we include the effect of the water infiltration and estimate the settlement in our model?
A. Yes water infiltration loading can be modeled using certain options like 'Surface Flux', and including that stress analysis can be run to estimate settlements.
Q2. If the excavation has more than 4 faces how do we apply different thicknesses on the e.g. sheet pile?
It is related to geometry modeling, such geometry with variable sheet pile thickness can also be created, and with a greater number of excavation faces, GTS NX has options for those. In such cases, you can define Time Step to include time delay between excavation and support installation.
Q3. Can we have a time delay between the excavation and the support installation?
A. In such cases you can define Time Step to include time delay between excavation and support installation.
Q4. Can we have a sample of the Excel template to import boreholes?
A. We just shared a handout file for the Tutorial Bedding Plane. Please confirm the handout and let me know if you need more information.
