This seminar provides a structured overview of seismic design, performance assessment, and failure analysis, based on real engineering projects from Greece.
The seminar begins with the seismic design of new buildings in accordance with Eurocode 8, introducing the overall design workflow and key considerations that influence structural behaviour and design decisions. It then moves to the seismic performance assessment of existing structures, where a real case study demonstrates the application and interpretation of pushover analysis to evaluate structural capacity and vulnerabilities.
The final session presents a real bridge failure case study, examining the collapse of the Palaiopyrgos Bridge during Storm Daniel and the subsequent redesign process, highlighting lessons learned and best practices for resilient bridge engineering.
Together, these sessions offer a coherent and practice-oriented perspective on seismic engineering, covering the full spectrum from design to assessment and real-world failure investigation.
