    AI Summary

This webinar explores practical applications of advanced numerical modelling for complex soil-structure interaction challenges, featuring real-world case studies in integral bridge modelling, foundation design on reclaimed land, and integrated structural and geotechnical analysis. It also introduces GTS NX's latest surrogate modelling-based Back Analysis capabilities for improving model calibration and engineering decision-making.

    Description

Complex infrastructure projects require engineers to understand how soil and structures interact under challenging ground conditions, loading scenarios, and environmental influences.
In partnership with Engineers Australia, this webinar explores practical applications of advanced numerical modelling through real-world engineering case studies using MIDAS GTS NX and CIVIL NX.
The session covers integral bridge modelling involving abutment-backfill interaction and seismic design challenges, foundation design on reclaimed land in marine environments, and recent developments in GTS NX, including surrogate modelling-based Back Analysis for calibrating model parameters against site monitoring data.

Michael Crisp Senior Geotechnical Engineer Mott MacDonald
Dr. Michael Crisp is a senior geotechnical engineer with 5 years of industry experience, particularly in numerical modelling for geotechnical problems. He has a PhD in Geotechnical Engineering on the topic of Site Investigation Optimisation. Michael developed progressive validation for integral bridge analysis from 2D to 3D to provide confidence in the application of FEA analysis. His efforts in developing an integrated geotechnical and structural models have been key to achieve the transparency of results and model accuracy required for the project.
Daniel Prudencio Design Lead and Technical Director Mott MacDonald

Daniel Prudencio, with 22 years of experience, is a Design Lead and Technical Director for Bridges in Mott MacDonald Australia, who provided technical design input in the project since concept design to resolve technical challenges of skew and integral behaviour. Daniel was a contributing member for the first Mott MacDonald Australia trial of integrated structural and geotechnical modelling for integral bridges in 2021. His experience led to the application of this methodology for the first time in an industry project.
