A MIDAS CIVIL NX webinar on the preliminary design of a hybrid bridge that combines steel composite girders with a cable-supported arch.
-
It covers modelling composite action between the girders and deck, and the structural interaction between the arch, cables, and deck system.

Description
This session introduces the preliminary design of a hybrid bridge structure, in which steel composite girders work together with a cable-supported arch. It sets out the conceptual and analytical workflow for this type of structure, a solution commonly used in medium- to long-span bridges where aesthetics and structural efficiency need to go hand in hand.
The case study in MIDAS CIVIL NX shows how to model the composite action between the steel girders and the concrete deck, and how the arch, cables and deck are brought together into a single analysis model. Particular attention is given to how loads are shared and transferred between these components, which governs the behaviour of the whole system.
The final part reviews the analysis results and discusses design approaches for hybrid bridges at the preliminary stage, helping engineers balance architectural intent with an efficient structural solution.
Key Points
Hybrid bridge workflow: a conceptual and analytical approach to the preliminary design of steel composite girder bridges with a cable-supported arch.
Composite action modelling: representing the interaction between steel girders and the concrete deck in MIDAS CIVIL NX.
System interaction: understanding how the arch, cables and deck share loads, and how this informs efficient, architecturally driven bridge design.
