     In this session, we will present a 3D deep excavation case study for a major development in Jakarta, Indonesia, consisting of two buildings with 16 and 8 stories, one mosque, and one conference building over a two-level basement. The project involved strict deformation control under SNI 8640:2017, soft ground conditions, nearby existing structures, and high groundwater level. 

     

    The session will highlight the key excavation strategy using the island method, its comparison with the strut method, and the foundation modeling approach used to evaluate secant pile behavior and staged construction.     Martin Wijaya is a geotechnical engineer and academic specializing in numerical modeling, seismic hazard analysis, and slope stability. He has experience across consultancy, research, and public-sector technical projects, including MRT excavation and tunnel works, bridge foundation design, ground improvement, and slope rehabilitation. His technical background includes MIDAS GTS NX, PLAXIS, and GeoStudio, and he has also contributed to national engineering initiatives in Indonesia. In addition to practice, he is an active author and reviewer in the geotechnical field, with a CRC Press publication and approximately 20 journal papers.
