Modelling a building and its foundation as a single structural system gives a more realistic picture of seismic behaviour, but it means carefully bridging structural dynamic analysis with soil-structure interaction, especially once the soil starts behaving non-linearly.

Davide Bellegoni is a structural engineer with more than ten years of professional experience in structural design, construction supervision, and advanced finite element analysis of civil and infrastructure projects. He is a partner at Fabrica S.c.r.l., an engineering company based in La Spezia, Italy.

Throughout his career, he has been involved in the design, assessment, and rehabilitation of bridges, viaducts, strategic public buildings, and complex structural systems. His expertise focuses on structural modelling, seismic assessment, and non-linear analysis, with more than a decade of daily experience using MIDAS GEN for advanced FEM simulations.

His professional portfolio includes the seismic assessment of schools and strategic facilities, safety evaluations of motorway viaducts, bridge strengthening projects, and the structural design of major civil and infrastructure works.
