    Series Overview

From assessment code to finite element model, in two live sessions

Assessing existing U-frame (half-through) steel railway bridges to Network Rail standards is rarely a one-size-fits-all task. This series shows both ends of the process: a fast, code-based Level 1 check in MIDAS CIVIL NX, and a full Level 2 finite element investigation in MIDAS FEA NX for when a line-beam check reaches its limits.

Attend either session on its own, or follow the full series to see how a bridge moves from a defensible Level 1 rating through to a non-linear FE assessment that accounts for imperfections, construction sequencing, and real material behaviour.

    FOCUS

U-frame steel bridge assessment: Network Rail code checks and non-linear finite element analysis

    The Series

Same bridge, two levels of proof

Each session stands on its own, and together they cover the full route from code to conclusion.

    Session 1 · Level 1
    August 12, 2026 (Wed) · 11:00–12:00 BST

    Level 1 Assessment:
    Network Rail U-Frame Steel Bridge

    MIDAS CIVIL NX

A complete Level 1 assessment of a U-frame steel bridge — from building and loading the model, to applying the correct combinations, to producing rating results and a clean, defensible report.

    • Navigate the Network Rail assessment code and where Level 1 fits
    • Apply the latest Network Rail assessment features in CIVIL NX
    • Build the right load combinations and generate a rating report
    Session 2 · Level 2
    August 19, 2026 (Wed) · 11:00–12:00 BST

    Level 2 Assessment:
    Network Rail U-Frame Steel Bridge

    MIDAS FEA NX

Beyond Level 1: building a U-frame bridge finite element model from scratch, running linear static and buckling analyses, then a full geometric and material non-linear assessment.

    • Build a shell model with the right materials, meshing and boundary conditions
    • Run linear static and linear buckling analyses
    • Introduce imperfections and reach a defensible non-linear conclusion
