How are European structural engineers using MIDAS in real project workflows?

This interview features Cristian Antonio, Founder & Structural Engineer at Anotech located in Romania, who shares how MIDAS is used across Anotech’s structural design workflow.

Antonio discusses why Anotech chose MIDAS, how MIDAS Gen is used as their main structural design software, and which features help improve modelling speed, data input, design checks, and nonlinear analysis.

He also explains how Anotech uses MIDAS across local and international projects, with GTS NX and FEA NX supporting more specialized engineering applications.

Interview with Cristian Antonio, Anotech

Q1. Could you briefly introduce yourself and your company?

A. My name is Antonio-Andrei Cristian, and I am a Structural Engineer and Founder of Anotech.

Anotech is a structural design and architecture company located in Romania. We work on both local and international projects across different sectors, including industrial, logistics, and residential projects.

Q2. What are the biggest challenges you face in your workflow?

A. The main challenges were modelling structures, inputting data such as load combinations and geometry, and exporting data outputs in a format that could be used for further calculations or structural reports.

Q3. Why did you choose MIDAS in your workflow over other options?

A. We first used MIDAS Gen while working for a client in the Netherlands, where we were asked to use the software. That helped us become familiar with MIDAS.

Later, when we started implementing MIDAS in our company, we received strong technical support from the MIDAS team, including training and useful information about the software.

Q4. How is MIDAS currently being used in your company?

A. Right now, we are using MIDAS Gen for all our structural design projects.

We also use GTS NX and FEA NX, but MIDAS Gen is our main software for structural design, including seismic assessment, design, and other types of engineering calculations.

Q5. Did you face any difficulties while using MIDAS and how were they taken care of?

A. Not really. MIDAS is quite easy to learn and become familiar with.

We also had experience using MIDAS on previous projects before purchasing the software for our company, so we did not face any significant difficulties.

Q6. What has improved the most after using MIDAS?

A. I would say the modelling speed has improved the most. It is much faster to build models, especially when working with meshing and line elements.

We can also automate many things in MIDAS, such as load combinations, load input, and predefined templates, which helps speed up the modelling process.

The design tools are also very useful for steel and concrete structures, making it much easier to check and design structures.

For special projects, we also use nonlinear analysis features, including predefined plastic hinge models, which are very helpful and allow us to speed up our projects significantly.

Q7. How would you describe MIDAS in one sentence?

A. It is very easy to use, but at the same time, it is also very powerful.

Q8. Would you recommend MIDAS to others?

A. Yes. Since MIDAS is the only structural design software we use in our company, I strongly recommend MIDAS.
