How are UK bridge engineers using MIDAS in real project workflows?
Filmed during our London onsite seminar, this interview features Jonathan Luke Fox, Senior Engineer at WSP and MIDAS UK Champion, who joined as a speaker to share practical applications of MIDAS CIVIL NX and FEA NX.
Jonathan discusses why MIDAS was selected at WSP, how it is used across bridge assessment and design projects, and which features help engineers work more efficiently.
A. My name is Jonathan Luke Fox, and I work for WSP, a multidisciplinary engineering firm. I have been with the company for around seven to eight years.
A. I am a Senior Engineer, and my main responsibility is serving as the MIDAS UK Champion.
A. We chose MIDAS because of its user-friendly interface and the wide range of available documentation and support resources. This includes technical support, YouTube channels, and the documentation provided when installing MIDAS.
Another important factor is the synergy between MIDAS CIVIL NX, FEA NX, and other engineering programs, which helps support a more connected workflow.
A. We currently have around 150 users. MIDAS is used across a variety of projects, including bridge assessment, design, and other engineering applications.
A. Yes, there have been some difficulties when using MIDAS, particularly with certain functionalities. However, these have been addressed by raising the questions directly with MIDAS, and the MIDAS team has been able to support us in resolving them.
A. One feature I particularly like is the ability to review the MCT command, import it into Excel, automate certain commands, and then bring them back into MIDAS CIVIL.
I also find it useful that engineers can move quickly from MIDAS CIVIL NX into FEA NX and perform meshing in FEA NX. This helps create a more efficient workflow between the two programs.
A. User-friendly
A. Yes, 100%.
