Myeongsang Ko, CEO of Myeongdong Engineering, founded the company in 2023. The company had no track record and no licences, yet some clients still trusted it with projects worth hundreds of millions of won. Here is how Myeongsang Ko turned that trust into the company's success, and why the experience is worth sharing with other engineers.

I've always tried to make the world a little better, and I've given my best in many fields. Because of that, I gained experience in design, construction, supervision, technical lecturing and review in a short time. That experience, along with a love of learning that hasn't faded, is what brought me to work as a geotechnical specialist. In short, I'm an energizer. I believe passionate people change the world.
A company that started with nothing
I founded Myeongdong Engineering in January 2023. Today it has 25 employees and more than KRW 3 billion in annual revenue. I left my former employer so I could stay with the team members who believed in me and followed me. We started from nothing and got here together. I owe it to the many people who recognised what my team and I could do.
Many people trusted one person and gave projects worth hundreds of millions of won to a company with no track record and no licences. Thanks to them, we earned venture business certification last year and Inno-Biz and Main-Biz certification this year. We now work on many projects with leading Korean corporations. We're still a small company, not yet four years old. I believe we got here because Myeongdong Engineering's engineers are among the best at solving problems.
Q. Is there a memorable moment you keep with MIDAS?
In 2024, the Korean Society of Soil and Foundation Professional Engineers signed an MOU with MIDAS. Through it, I stood at the lectern at MIDAS headquarters as an instructor for MIDAS expert training. I shared my experience and engineering knowledge with many geotechnical specialists. It's a memory that has stayed with me.
Today, almost every geotechnical specialist in Korea uses MIDAS to check ground stability and presents its results as the evidence. Our company also does its main work with MIDAS geotechnical and structural programs. Lecturing at MIDAS gave us a strong boost in credibility with clients and partners.
Myeongdong Engineering got where it is today because people trusted. Myeongsang Ko now passes that trust on to other geotechnical engineers, from the MIDAS lecture stage to design review committees. MIDAS is behind Myeongsang Ko, who believes a different life calls for a different kind of effort.
