John Hilton in Australia, Luis Alberto Villena Sotomayor in Peru, Jonathan Aquino in the Philippines and Chiranjib Sarkar in India have each seen many young engineers grow in the field, and have helped that growth along through mentoring. All four also say the teaching has shaped their own practice in return.
In their own words.

"I can say I've built up Quality, Empathy, Innovation through my career"
I'd like to think I have helped and inspired many young engineers in my career, at least to the extent that they have helped and inspireed me. In that sense, MIDAS has provided a wonderful contribution to many projects that I have been involved with. The support of MIDAS to the Aurecon bridge design team is very much appreciated.

"No one owns knowledge, but I am passionate about learning, applying, and teaching it."
Teaching has allowed me to train several engineers not only from an academic point of view but also from a practical point of view, through the projects we execute. Human judgment must prevail over the automation of the programs, which is why we must use Midas to optimize and refine, but also use the engineer's mind to validate the results and ensure human lives.

"Every calculation represents a structure, and every structure represents people who will depend on it."
I am proud to see my students and junior engineers adopt my approach to infrastructure design, applying the principles of sound engineering, innovation, and practical solutions in their own work.
Engineering is not only about formulas, codes, and drawings. It is about sound judgment, attention to detail, and taking ownership of every decision we make as engineers. Teach, innovate, and build for the nation.

"I believe that combining experience with fresh perspectives is essential for advancing engineering practice."
As a design team leader, I am committed to delivering value-engineered, sustainable, practical, and constructible solutions. I believe that good engineering goes beyond theoretical excellence. It must translate into designs that are efficient, economical, resilient, and practical to execute on site.
I am passionate about bridging the generational gap within the civil engineering profession by fostering knowledge-sharing and professional networks among experienced industry professionals and the next generation of engineers.
Q. What does MIDAS do for you outside of a submission deadline?
It encourages me to look beyond routine office work, submissions, and deadlines. It gives me the opportunity to explore engineering problems more deeply and motivates me to engage in research, innovation, and the development of better engineering solutions.
The engineers these four have trained are now carrying sound engineering judgment into projects of their own. That contribution reaches well beyond any single project, and MIDAS is glad to recognise it in all four Righters.
